The SCGA kicked off the California State Amateur Championship earlier this week with their media day here at Omni La Costa. Past champions, tournament organizers, as well as some this year’s qualifiers all gathered earlier this week on our Valley Promenade to talk about the 103rd edition of the tournament coming June 16.
The CA Amateur is one of the longest standing golf tournaments in the United States, beginning back in 1912 and originally played at Del Monte Golf Course. The tournament shifted to Pebble Beach Golf Links after the course was constructed in 1919, and the tournament remained there until 2006 (except for 2000 when Pebble Beach hosted the US Open) when the championship began rotating throughout the state. After a lengthy selection process, the championship will test the both courses here at La Costa for the 2014 version of the tournament.
