Foliage isn’t the only transformation taking place this fall – each spring and autumn, fashionistas anxiously await the opportunity to update their wardrobes and the Plaza Shops at La Costa never disappoint. To help in your upcoming shopping decisions, our own fashion expert, Laura Bull has compiled her Fall 2012 Trend Watch, providing examples found at our own resort Plaza Shops.
Every decade has its own beloved, and sometimes eccentric, claim to fame as far as fashion is concerned – but there is rarely an era regarded in the fashion world as inspirational as the 70s – and that’s exactly what we’re noticing on runways and in catalogs across the board. We’re referring to this season’s style as Retro-Chic. It’s the toned down, well-behaved, subtle looks that defined the late 60s and early 70s. Expect to see beautifully-fitted floral and lace demure dresses, colorful trouser-styled pants, geo prints and bold corals and cobalt blues dominating your favorite magazines, shops and friends’ closets. Here we break down exactly what to expect and plan for this fall.
Colors – This season, expect to see a lot of cobalt blues, bright corals and reds, and subtle pops of mustard yellow, red and orange. Of course one can never go wrong with the standard heavy black, brown, tan or grey, but be sure to add a splash of color with your accessories.
Fabrics – We can all breathe a sigh of relief, literally, as this season calls for stretchy knits, polyester and wool to prep us for the cooler seasons coming up. Even the more fitted favorites, like the adorable Lilly Pulitzer Kinley Sweater Dress seen to the right will have some give, allowing for a more comfortable fit.
Accessories – For the past year or so, gold jewelry and accessories have really made a comeback, and it’s not going anywhere this autumn. Accents of gold can complement beautiful chunky stones in your favorite ring, necklace or earring. To play up the more neutral hues of the fall, go bold with statement accessories, like the Marcia Moran Skull Necklace seen above.
As every fashionista knows, accessorizing isn’t just about the gems and jewels that adorn our fingers, wrists, necks and ears – it’s also about the accessory that no matter your style, age or destination, every woman needs – your purse. This season, expect to see a lot more shoulder bags, geo-shaped envelope clutches and texture mixing this season.
