It seemed fitting just as we prepare to open the Legends Golf Course, that one of our all-time favorite golf legends, Gary Player paid us a surprise visit. It was.. completely unexpected, sort of like a sign from the golf gods, confirming we made the right choice in renaming the course from its original “South Course” to all-new “Legends Course.”
Arguably, the most successful international golfer of all time, Gary Player is renowned for his dedication to the principles of excellence, his “impeccable set of values, stringent regimen of health and fitness, and insistence on quality” – and it’s these qualities he shared with KUSI’s Brad Perry just yesterday while here visiting his old stomping grounds.
During his interview with the San Diego News Anchor, Player shared his thoughts on the responsibilities of athletes and celebrities of today – that they should use their celebrity to affect positive change and influence in today’s youth – visiting at least one school per year, teaching students about proper diet and fitness regimens, encouraging them to stay on a clean, drug-free path, and striving for educational greatness.
And the interview, while serious in nature, was not without its own friendly competition. Mr. Gary Player challenged Brad Perry to Do. The. Impossible. (Trust us, we’ve tried, and it’s impossible.) Check out the clip below to see if Brad Perry was a worthy opponent, and to see if you acquire the same balancing skills as this stellar 78-year old inspirational athlete… maybe it’s the sound effects.
We are so incredibly grateful, and still inspired after all these years, to have Mr. Gary Player grace us with his presence, especially in the midst of opening the course that honors him and the game’s greats.
